Best Icecream in the universe

This is amazing. To this date I have never tasted a better combination. Try this at your own peril because I cannot be responsible for any weight gain or heart complications due in whole or in part to any obsessive ice cream eating habits developed after tasting this.

Head to Coldstone's. Order a large Oatmeal Cookie Batter icecream with Graham Cracker Pie Crust mixed in it. Enjoy and thank me later.

Good day

Look at this kid. He's a big old love chunk!

The Chili Dog Effect

I've told this story to lots of friends and families but I thought I'd throw it up on the blog for fun.

If you didn't know firemen are superstitious. We do some silly things around the firestation like wear lucky shirts, do fire dances, and set fire to pieces of paper in ashtrays. All to try to bring some action to a slow day at the station. Now I will say we don't want your house to burn down, we just want to be there when it does.

So with that said I will tell you about Chili Dogs. It all started one fateful february day when we were shopping at Price Chopper. The youngest guy at the station Eric who is also our pickiest eater and cook most of the time was having an argument with our Captain Ryan Harris about lunch. Ryan was demanding that we have chili dogs. Now Ryan is a lot of fun and was mainly giving Eric a hard time because he knows how much he hates chili dogs. Eric in his defense hands Ryan his cellphone and makes Ryan talk to Eric's mom. Eric's mom tells him he better not make his son eat chili dogs. Which of course meant we were definitely having chili dogs that day.

After loading our cart with chili dog fixin's we hear a call on our radio's. Smoke from a restaurant in the Waldo area. Long story short it is a massive fire where 5 guys get burnt and Eric ends up spending 3 months in the hospital and another 3 months recuperating from his skin grafts etc.

Not fun at all, and you can see why we might have an aversion to chili dogs. Well several months later we decide to have them again and we end up at a fire that night where 8 guys fall into the basement of a burning house when the porch collapses. Luckily some twisted knees, sprained ankles, and stitches were the only outcome of that close call.

So that's the end of the Chili Dog saga right? Who in their right mind would ever make chili dogs at the station again. That would be crazy!!!

1 month ago after a drought of over a month (fireman speak for "no fires for a month") Ryan orders me to make chili dogs yet again. That night we arrive at a 3 story apartment complex fire with people jumping out of the windows when we get there. After that we have had a "working" (lots of fire) house or apartment fire every day besides 2 for the last month. Arsons, Electrical fires, Vacant houses set ablaze all over our district. It's been crazy and of course a lot of fun.

So I'm swearing them off for good. Not even a direct order will make me ever cook chili dogs again. I'll go home sick first!!! Well at least until we hit a dry spell again hehe

The Dark Knight

Wow what a great movie! Thanks to Jessi's mom Patti for watching Ryan so Jess and I could enjoy a nice date-night to celebrate the sale of our house. We went to Kato Japanese Restaurant and enjoyed some sushi, cocktails, and edamane. Then we headed to the AMC to relax, eat milk duds and watch Batman - The Dark Knight.

It was a wonderful night and we had a great time. I highly recommend the movie and Heath Ledgers performance is definitely worthy of some awards.

If you ever go to Kato, the Chief sushi is awesome. I'm also a huge fan of the Philadelphia. Neither of them are raw and they are both very tasty with a bit of soy, a smidge of wasabi, and a piece of ginger on top. Yummah!

Tomorrow

One more day and our Oakland house will be sold and occupied by someone new. We went over there last night to fix an outlet and take a peek at the concrete work we had done and reminisced a bit. It was cool and sad at the same time seeing Ryan walking around in the house that we brought him home to from the hospital. He is so big now but was just a little 5lb baby laying in his crib next to our bed just a few months ago.

We are finishing up the last thing today and we will be done. We finished our paperwork last night and around 2pm the last bit of work on the house will be complete and we will be free. Jessi's mom is coming over on Thursday to watch Ryan so we can have a date night and do some celebrating.

Double Mortgages is a stressful thing!!

Monday

One of my favorite songs by Jimmy Buffet (Of Margaritaville fame) is called "Come Monday" and that is how I feel right now. "Come Monday I'll feel alright..." Monday is the day the contractor comes out and fixes the porch on the Oakland house. Streamlining our close on the house, and finishing up the double mortgage payment. Crossing your fingers is good, prayer is better. Maybe a candlelit vigil and a 40 day fast are in order. I don't know ;) We are excited to get this done and I'm sure the new owners are excited to move in (they have furniture already ordered and ready to move in).

Could we be in luck on the Oakland House?

I had another structural engineer come out and he seems to think we can fix this porch issue without a huge expenditure of money. Fingers crossed and all that. I'm going to call more contractors and find out if it can be done!

Oakland House

Well we have been trying to sell our previous house for awhile now and had found a buyer but we are having some interesting problems.

They are getting an FHA loan and it turns out that certain things found by the inspector MUST be fixed by the previous owner before they will cosent to the loan.

When we bought the house we knew there was a slight sag in the front porch but it hasn't been a problem and we didn't expect to have to fix it for a long time or ever. Definitely not after we had moved out of the house. But here we are trying to find a mudjacker to give us an estimate on fixing it. Hopefully things will work out though and we will close on this house before the end of the month.

Thanks for your prayers on this and I will keep you updated on what happens.

Do you see anything in my teeth?

August 25th the Journey Begins

Exciting news! We will be leaving for London, England on August 25th 2008. Jessi's work is sending all three of us there for 2 months so she can train the BATS Europe Head of Finance.

We will be staying in an apartment in London which I've been told is a 10 minute walk from Buckingham Palace and right in the middle of everything cool.

Jessi gets 2 long weekends and 1 week of vacation that she can take while we are there so we are going to try to check out Ireland, Paris, and possibly do a 7 day cruise from Barcelona Spain through the Mediterranean.

We will be gone until October 26th and are currently trying to get all of the bases covered (lawn care, dog and cat watching, fish feeding, house watching, etc.) before we leave. So wish us luck and check back as I find out more about our trip I will post it here
